The engineering method is a series steps that individuals (engineers and developers) use to develop a product or a solution. These products or solution are used in daily life and may solve issues that users or consumers experience.
The process starts with students defining the problem, researching it and identifying requirements that must be met. They brainstorm ideas and look at what others have done in order to solve the problem.
They then choose the best solution from their list and build a working prototype. This step shows the students that they’ve accomplished a lot, and they can see how their idea becomes a real solution.
Students then test their prototypes in order to confirm that they are working as expected. They can also improve their designs using the prototypes.
Before they can have a finished design, they will probably go through several different prototypes. This iterative method teaches designers that they should never stop trying to improve the design.
Whether your students decide to become engineers or not, the process of engineering is something they can use throughout their lives to solve any problems. They can apply what they learn to any type of project, such as building skyscrapers or manufacturing sneakers.
